DOCO Recognized by ICSC with Prestigious MAXI Award in Global Retail Competition for First-Time Block Party
Sacramento, Calif. – ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers), the world’s largest retail real estate organization, has recognized DOCO (Downtown Commons) with a 2020 MAXI Award in the “Experiential” category for shopping centers under 500,000 square feet in size. The prestigious award was earned for the large-scale DOCO Block Party that took place in September 2019 and was organized in partnership with the Sacramento Kings. The free, open-air event included interactive experiences and hands-on art activities, entertaining live music including a high-energy performance by pop icon and reality TV star Vanilla Ice, special tenant activations and more, seeing approximately 12,000 community members in attendance. “DOCO was developed to serve as a gathering place to showcase the best of our region and we’re humbled to have received three prestigious industry awards honoring unique and experience-based activations during its first two years in operation,” said Sacramento Kings President of Business Operations John Rinehart. “The first-ever DOCO Block Party in 2019 was an incredible team effort that provided a great opportunity for our community to connect, interact and create very memorable experiences.”
Each year, the MAXI Awards recognize innovative events, programs and technologies that add value to shopping centers and companies across the United States. Categories are designed to recognize the evolution of the industry while rewarding creativity and innovation with Gold, Silver, and Finalist distinctions.
