DOCO’s Getta Clue Streetwear Shop Celebrates 30 Years in Business

DOCO’s Getta Clue Streetwear Shop Celebrates 30 Years in Business

Sacramento, Calif. — DOCO (Downtown Commons) and Getta Clue Store, a popular streetwear shop, invite the community to help celebrate the retailer’s 30th anniversary. Celebratory plans will continue throughout the year and include monthly limited-run t-shirt drops (created primarily by graphic designers in Sacramento), pop-up activations in collaboration with talented local artists, energizing DJ music, specialty vendors showcased in-store and more. To help kick off the festivities, the first limited-edition anniversary t-shirt, designed by local artist Anthony Nathan (@thebunnyyears), debuted earlier this month; limited supplies are still available (in-store only).

Founded in 1992 in Sacramento by co-owners Justin Bilbao and Scott Gilbert, Getta Clue has contributed to the rise of streetwear, skate and skateboard fashion throughout the country. Determined to bring a streetwear culture to Sacramento, their eye for fashion and willingness to stay current with evolving trends helped to set the standard for other retailers in the fashion industry. Today, Getta Clue remains the longest running independently owned streetwear store in the nation (by the same owners).

Early on, Bilbao and Gilbert recognized that cultural shifts in music serve as a creative catalyst for streetwear fashion and they continually tap into emerging trends.

“The ‘80s and ‘90s went through a combination of skate, electronic and hip-hop scenes that gave way to an exciting new culture of streetwear,” said Getta Clue Store co-owner Justin Bilbao. “We put together the money and opened up in Sacramento (on Broadway) in ’92 with the concept of bringing stuff that nobody in this city had seen. Thus, the name Getta Clue was born.”

A few decades later, streetwear styles have become mainstream, maintained a permanent presence and are now part of an overall lifestyle look. Always keeping a watchful eye on innovative art and music trends that translate to streetwear, the Getta Clue Store currently carries national brands such as Circulate, Ice Cream by Pharrell, Mitchell & Ness and Nike, plus numerous local brands such as Alien Labs, Angry Tuna and California Steeze.

“We take great pride knowing that Getta Clue has served as a launch pad or incubator of sorts for numerous employees, entrepreneurs and creatives who ultimately have gone on to launch their own businesses and brands,” added Bilbao.

While Getta Clue Store moved locations multiple times in its early years, the shop remains one of the founding retailers at DOCO (Downtown Commons), centrally located on the main level and was at this location when the center was named Downtown Plaza in the ‘90s.

DOCO is an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment destination in the heart of downtown Sacramento. Convenient parking is available in DOCO’s central garage with an entrance on J Street between 4th & 5th Streets. The elevators and escalators take guests up to the plaza’s main level and second level terrace near many of the restaurants, eateries, and retail tenants.
